The issues that may shape the next election

The latest topics concerning the public

Ranked as the most important by voters

Data from Ipsos MORI, going back as far as the 1970s, helps to paint a picture of the public's changing priorities. In the 1970s and 1980s, it was unemployment and inflation that shaped voters' views. As the 1990s gave way to the 2000s, topics such as education, health and immigration took hold. In 2022, as concern about the pandemic recedes, the economy, environment and issues overseas are playing a greater role in the minds of many voters.
